A unique collection of birds of all kinds that I photographed throughout 2011 in Minnesota. I am a true bird nerd at heart, and I loved every moment that I snapped of these adorable birdies.

Each ornament is made to order, and will contain a variety of photos that are shown here in the listing. The arrangement of photos will vary for each ornament.

A bonus little charm is included. It is hand-stamped "Bird Nerd" on the front and there is a little chick stamped on the back. It has a lobster clasp to easily wear elsewhere.

It will arrive in a lovely gift box, wrapped in tissue paper and is ready to give as a gift.

Creative Inspiration

Hi all,
I was just reflecting on some of my photo sessions this year and thinking about the elements that make up a shoot.

Location, lighting and cooperation between everyone are key for any photo. There are also basics that comprise every photo, such as ISO ("film speed"), aperture, depth of field, shutter speed, and exposure compensation. Adjusting the position and strength of an attached (professional) flash is very important as well.

Once I'm all set with all those basics, I usually start with some more basics in terms of portraits and composing the frame. This slow start usually helps my clients warm up to having their photo taken, and I can help direct looks, smiles and capture laughter and sweet looks between friends, family and couples.

Especially for outdoor sessions we'll be on the move, looking for another spot to shoot with. This is usually the best time for creative inspiration to strike.

Anything from lovely architecture, nature, sunlight streaming through, bright colors or those once-in-a-lifetime moments can trigger inspiration.

Being open to this, everyone feeling relaxed and in a good mood will help add that creative spark that will make your photo session so unique and fun.

I don't have a formula for artistic shooting that I follow... These spontaneous moments are which I personally feel the best photos are captured. They are my most favorite part of being your photographer.

Spring & Summer 2011: Family photo shoots and Open Studios in Minnesota

If you love my creative style of photography and would like to book me, please contact me to set up a shoot.

-:|:- Details for a Single Family session -:|:-

A shoot is $200 for one family. We spend one to two hours together and you receive 100 images on CD with permission to print. I also send you 25 qty 4x6 prints from my top favorites. You can also purchase additional shots/time or CDs.

Each booking requires a $100 non-refundable deposit. The remaining balance will be due on or before the date of the shoot. MN tax of 7% will be added to all orders.

I love to photograph on location in your home, your neighborhood, a local park or playground. Natural settings give way to natural smiles, laughter and fun.

Any session can be rescheduled due to severe weather or family emergency.

If you would also love to get your siblings and their kids, your friends, neighbors, your co-workers and members of your church involved, we can set up an Open Studio day.

How does it work?

You and I will talk to set up the date and location. You then talk with your friends and family and everyone in your social circle about this Photography date. I can provide you with a detailed email to share if you'd like.

I will set up hourly appointments when each family is ready to book the session.

On the day of the Open Studio, I'll be there all day, ready to shoot every one's smiles and unique personalities. Each family has their own shoot for up to one hour. We can combine families upon request.

The session details include: you receive 100 images on CD with permission to print. I also send you 25 qty 4x6 prints from my top favorites. You can also purchase additional shots/time or CDs. My style is creative, but not over-the-top. We work together to show off your personality, sweet smile and personal style. Your ideas are welcomed.

Minnesota weather can be tricky, so I usually set up a main shoot date with you, and another for backup. Most shoots take place outdoors, but we can also work together to pick an indoor location if that is what you prefer. I do not work with a backdrop in a studio space; this is not my style. By getting out in the world we get to show off your personality in a much more relaxed setting, with more texture, color and visual space.

Pricing and package:
$200 for up to 2 hours of photography. My average shoot is 1.5 hours.
You can have up to 3 outfit changes.
You receive 100 professionally edited images on a CD, with permission to print.
I work with a digital SLR, and your images will be in high resolution.
I offer free blemish corrections if you order your prints through me.
You also receive 25 prints of my top picks.

Winter Courthouse Wedding

Details for a Single Family shoot:

A shoot is $200 for one family. We spend one to two hours together and you receive 100 images on CD with permission to print. I also send you 25 qty 4x6 prints from my top favorites. You can also purchase additional shots/time or CDs.

Each booking requires a $50 non-refundable deposit. The remaining balance will be due on or before the date of the shoot. MN tax of 7% will be added to all orders.

I love to shoot on location in your home, your neighborhood, a local park or playground. Natural settings give way to natural smiles, laughter and fun.

Any shoot can be rescheduled due to severe weather or family emergency.

The Open Studio

If you would also love to get your siblings and their kids, your friends, neighbors, your co-workers and members of your church involved, we can set up an Open Studio.

How does it work?

You and I will talk to set up the date and location. You then talk with your friends and family and everyone in your social circle about this Photography date. I can provide you with a detailed email to share if you'd like.

I will set up hourly appointments when each family is ready to book the shoot.

On the day of the Open Studio, I'll be there all day, ready to shoot every one's smiles and unique personalities. Each family has their own shoot for up to one hour. We can combine families upon request.

The shoot details include: you receive 100 images on CD with permission to print. I also send you 25 qty 4x6 prints from my top favorites. You can also purchase additional shots/time or CDs. Each booking requires a $50 non-refundable deposit. The remaining balance will be due on or before the date of the shoot. MN tax of 7% will be added to all orders.

Celebrating Family

This little cherub had just turned 1 year old! She was in the mood to run, so we took breaks and let her play until she was ready for a few more photos.

The winter shots are especially sweet; this was the first time she had gotten to play in the snow.

Honey is her beloved family pup. Honey appears on many of the cards as the lovable mascot.

Rogue Photography is going green!

A little greener and happy to do it.

I often don't talk about myself personally here on my blog, I want this blog to entertain you with beautiful photos and simple wedding tales.

But one thing that I am as a person is "green." I have been living the recycle-reduce-reuse motto for years.

It's overwhelming to look at your carbon footprint and think it's time to help change the world. I stick to a few things that work well with my lifestyle and feel good about the small change I am making.

One particular I want to share with you is that I recycle. *Everything* I saved all my recyclable products from my last road trip to Boston and brought them home with me. My city accepts the "non standard" plastics, numbered 1 - 6. Things like yogurt and take-out containers. I feel like I'm doing something truly great being able to take my recycling to the next level. I only have to take my trash out to the curb once a month. It makes that big of difference!

How is Rogue Photography going green?

I am adding high resolution digital shooting to my resume. I am now shooting digital in addition to film. I have cut my film use in half. From the cost of film production to processing at the lab to printing on paper - less less less.

Admittedly this means a lot more time at the computer, digital brings with it a hefty time commitment, it means finding new ways to handle my post-production business. But I feel good about these changes regardless and will let you know if I make the move completely to digital.

A pretty yet chilly winter wedding

We were hoping for blue skies, but not such a wicked wind chill for this early December wedding. Our lovely bride, Jennifer, braved the cold for some pretty photos just outside the church. Her groom, Michael, was sure to keep her close and warm.

This was a small, intimate wedding with close family and friends. Here we have everyone together cheering on our new husband & wife!

A fine fall day in 2008; Senior Portraits

Sitting here in my office, the sun is quite deceiving. It is a whopping -35 in wind chill here in Minnesota and I am longing for the warm day from this senior portrait shoot!

Andrew and his friend Danny had fun jumping around and climbing trees during their shoot. I love getting the laughs, along with the sweet and serious shots, too.

Senior portraits with Rogue Photography are relaxed and casual. We typically wander the great outdoors and I'm open to your ideas. Outfit changes won't cost you extra.

Senior Photos are $200 for a two hour session. You get 72 shots and the best proofs as 4x6 prints. You also receive a high resolution CD that you can print from. Blemish corrections are free with reprint orders.

Having fun with Senior Portraits!

Danny & Andrew had fun goofing off during their Senior Portrait shoots. More smiles from Andrew's shoot coming next week.

If you would like to schedule your shoot with a friend, or additional family, just ask. While you each purchase your own shoot, we can mix it up and keep everyone entertained.

Graduation Cards

It is $40 for the graphic design of the card.

5x7 photo cards are $1.00/card for quantities starting at 0 – 99.
They are $0.75/card for quantities 100 +.
Plain white envelopes are included.
(These are true photo prints, they will have digital lab printing on the backs.)

5x7 flat cards on a watercolor or linen paper are $2.00/card, 25 minimum, order in quantities of 25. (This is a new service I'm offering). White envelopes are included. You can also get glossy coated cardstock for the same price.

You can share with me any other card designs that you like and I can model your card after it. Otherwise let me know the school colors and text and photos you would like to use and I will create a couple of drafts for you.

Thank you to everyone in the Boston area that took the time to have me shoot for you. It was a pleasure seeing familiar faces as well as meeting new ones.

Teeter Tots and I are talking about another visit in the Fall of 2009. I'll be in touch again next year when more details are available.

It's almost here!

My goodness, I had no idea that my August would be so busy and lacking in spare time. I'm pretty excited to share my Open Studio Boston 2008 photos with you, I just have to get them sorted and posted. Oy.

Soon, I promise, soon. My favorites from all the shoots will be shown in a great big colorful slideshow.

This family portrait was done in the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University. It really is breathtaking and wonderful to walk through. The family has spent many days here exploring over the years. While they were moving away just the week after our shoot, this was an enchanting way to capture those memories for them.
